Make 9 Chic Holiday Accents from Felt

This seasonal table setting is inspired by a pine forest. We imagined an oversize pinecone and needles on a table runner. Download the FREE pattern at the bottom of this page.

What you need
• 3 yards white wool-blend felt for the runner (or enough to cover your table)
• 3 yards brown wool-blend felt for the runner (or enough to cover your table)

• 12x18-inch piece of brown wool-blend felt
• 12x18-inch piece of green wool-blend felt
• Black marker
• Scissors
• Fusible web (a fiber that bonds when heated)
• Iron

How to make it 
1. Cut out a white felt piece for the runner (ours is 105x21 inches). Cut out a brown felt piece to layer underneath the white runner (ours is 106x22 inches).
2. Cut out pinecone and pine needle patterns. Trace pinecone pieces on brown felt and pine needles on green felt. Then cut out the shapes.
3. Attach cutout green and brown pinecone pieces to the white runner with fusible web.
4. Cut a 1 1/2-inch fringe on both ends of each runner.
5. Layer the brown runner underneath the white runner.

What you need
• 1 1/3 yards brown wool-blend felt (or enough to fit your mantel; should be 12 inches narrower than the mantel with a front overhang of 1 foot)
• 12x16-inch piece of white wool-blend felt
• Small piece of green wool-blend felt
• Black marker

How to make it
1. Cut brown felt "scarf" to fit your mantel (ours is 30x48 inches).
2. Cut out dove, olive twig and "peace" letter patterns. Trace dove and letters on white felt. Trace olive twig on green felt. Then cut out the shapes.
3. Attach cutout "peace" letters to the brown scarf with fabric glue. Place letters about 3 inches from the bottom edge of the felt piece. The last letter should be about 1 inch from the scarf's edge.
4. Attach cutout white dove to the left of the word "peace" with fabric glue. Let the right wing hang off the bottom of the scarf.
5. Attach the green felt olive twig next to the dove's beak.

What you need
• Book or photo album
• 1/2 yard green wool-blend felt
• 9x12-inch piece of white wool-blend felt
• Black marker
• Scissors

How to make it
1. Measure the book. Add 1/4-inch to the height and 8 inches to the book's width (for front and back covers and the spine).
2. Cut this size from green felt, and wrap around the book. Fold the extra width inside the front and back covers. Close the book; then glue the felt where the ends meet at the top and bottom of the covers. Hold glued edges with paper clips and let dry.
3. Cut out reindeer pattern and date pattern. Trace reindeer and numbers on white felt. Cut out and attach to the green felt cover with fabric glue.

What you need
• 2 yards white wool-blend felt
• 2 1/4 yards light green wool-blend felt
• 2 1/4 yards dark green wool-blend felt
• 1/2 yard red wool-blend felt
• Light and dark green embroidery floss

How to make it
1. For the skirt, cut a desired-size circle out of white felt. Our skirt has a 48-inch diameter. Cut a slit for the tree and a center with a 3-inch diameter for the tree holder.
2. Cut out holly leaf patterns in two sizes. The large holly leaf pattern should be about 26 inches long. The small holly leaf pattern should be about 24 inches long. Trace 6 large holly leaves on the dark green felt. Trace 6 small holly leaves on the light green felt. Cut out the leaves.
3. Hand-stitch embroidery floss down the center of each leaf. Use dark green embroidery floss on the light green leaves; use light green floss on the dark leaves.
4. Cut out red berry pattern. The diameter should be about 5 1/2 inches. Trace 12 berries on red felt and cut out.
5. Use fabric glue to attach light and dark green leaves to the white skirt in groupings of three. Add three red berries to each grouping. Leaves and berries should overlap.

• 4 1/3 yards white wool-blend felt
• 1/2 yard green wool-blend felt

How to make it
1. Cut out poinsettia flower patterns in two sizes (22 inches and 30 inches wide). Trace 3 flowers in each size on white felt and cut out.
2. Cut out poinsettia leaf pattern. Trace 4 leaves on green felt and cut out.
3. Use fusible web to iron on white poinsettia flowers and green leaves (layer 1 leaf under 4 of the 6 flowers). Arrange flowers in random order.
4. Cut small brown circles (diameter of 1 inch) from leftover brown felt and place 6-7 circles in each flower center. Attach with fabric glue.

What you need for the berry branch pillow
• 24x14-inch oblong pillow form
• 1/2 yard red felt
• 1/2 yard white felt
• 1/4 yard brown felt
• Black marker
• Scissors

How to make it
1. To make the pillow cover, cut the front and back pieces out of felt. Because the back red felt piece also works as a border, it should have an extra 1/2 inch on each side. Cut a 26x16-inch rectangle out of the red felt for the back pillow piece. Cut a 25 1/2x15 1/2-inch rectangle out of the white felt for the front pillow piece.
2. Cut out branch pattern. Trace on brown felt and cut out. Cut 11 red dots out of the red felt for the berries.
3. Apply the branch and berries to the white pillow front with fabric glue.
4. To put the front and back pieces together, outline the back felt piece (1 1/2 inches in from all edges) with 1/4-inch fusible tape. Then place the front piece on top and fuse the two pieces together by ironing.
5. Cut a vertical slit along the center of the back piece. Insert a pillow form.

What you need for the birch trunks pillow
• 18x18-inch pillow form
• 1 1/4 yards brown wool-blend felt
• 3/4 yard white wool-blend felt
• Black marker
• Scissors

How to make it
1. To make the pillow cover, cut 2 brown felt squares that are 19x19 inches.
2. Cut out birch trunks pattern. Trace on white felt and cut out.
3. Apply the birch trunks to the front felt piece with fabric glue. The trunks should extend to the top and bottom edges.
4. To put the front and back pieces together, outline the back felt piece (1 1/2 inch in from all edges) with 1/4-inch fusible tape. Then place the front piece on top and fuse the two pieces together by ironing.
5. Cut a vertical slit along the center of the back piece. Insert a pillow form.

• 20x20-inch pillow form
• 1 1/4 yards white wool-blend felt
• 1 yard green wool-blend felt
• Black marker

1. To make the pillow cover, cut 2 white felt squares that are 22x22 inches.
2. Cut out evergreen trees pattern. Trace on green felt and cut out.
3. Apply the evergreen trees to the front felt piece with fabric glue.
4. To put the front and back pieces together, outline the back felt piece (1 1/2 inches in from all edges) with 1/4-inch fusible tape. Then place the front piece on top and fuse the two pieces together by ironing.
5. Cut a vertical slit along the center of the back piece. Insert a pillow form.

What you need
• 2 yards of white wool-blend felt
• Ready-made flat rigid foam wreath (20-inch diameter)

• Stiffening spray
• Spray glue
• Glitter
• Mounting squares
• Black marker
• Scissors
• Fabric glue
• White embroidery floss

How to make it
1. To make the wreath base, cut out white felt pieces to cover the ready-made flat rigid foam wreath. (Our wreath has a 20-inch diameter). Using the wreath form as a pattern, trace and cut two pieces of white felt to cover the front and back of the foam. Then cut a band of felt to cover the inside edge and a second band to cover the outside edge.
2. Attach the felt pieces around the wreath form with upholstery glue.
3. Hand-stitch all edges with white embroidery floss to secure.
4. Sew a loop of embroidery floss on the back of the wreath to hang.
5. Cut out the 6 snowflake patterns. (There are 3 snowflake patterns in 2 sizes).
6. Apply stiffening spray to the white felt so that the snowflakes will keep their shape.
7. Trace and cut out 3 snowflakes in each size for a total of 18 snowflakes. (Trace and cut more, if needed).
8. Layer snowflakes in random order on the wreath. Start with the biggest snowflakes on the bottom layer. Adhere with fabric glue.
9. For dimension, apply more snowflakes with stacks of mounting squares.
10. Apply spray glue and sprinkle on glitter. Let dry.
